Misplaced anticipation can cause some of the worst feelings. When you look forward to something all day and it never comes to fruition. Not only is it a letdown, but it makes you feel down. It can get you into the crappiest moods no matter how much you think that you have your feelings under control.

When feelings do arise because of misplaced anticipation they are oftentimes irrational, feelings that you will laugh over later. There have been situations when rage comes into play. A really pissed off toward someone feeling even though you have no right to be pissed off.

The worst moment is when you find out that your anticipation was misplaced. When you find a workaround to the problem, sometimes no one else seems to see the point. They consider the situation to have ended, to be over and done with and don't listen to your little hints.

It can also manifest itself in relationships. If a plan doesn't work out and the excuse is that one of your friends couldn't come it may make you feel inadequate and think that your company is boring and that being with you isn't fun unless with that other person because you are boring.

These kind of things happen all the time, yet I always seem to have the same thoughts and feelings. When friends reassure you, it feels nice, but one of the big flaws of humanity crops up. They may be lying. Instead of telling the truth people tend to tell little white lies.

Here is one hypothetical instance in which this may occur. Suppose that two friends have seen each other a lot recently. Then suppose that they planned another get-together, but one of the friends was a little tired of seeing the other one. Instead of saying "I think that we should not go through with this plan because I've seen a lot of you lately, and I'd just like a little rest" one would be more inclined to say "I have a lot of work that I didn't anticipate coming. How about we reschedule for next Tuesday?"

Small problems like misplaced anticipation shouldn't be able to alter one's mood so dramatically and make one feel so sad and lonely. I guess it's not a good idea to let so few have so much power over your life.
